Resistance of grapevine cultivars against crown gall was determined in 49 Vitis genotypes (29 European cultivars, 6 American cultivars, and 14 Vitis hybrid cultivars) by inoculating Agrobacterium vitis ‘Cheonan 493’ and measuring gall size and the proportion of formed galls. No genotype was immune to crown gall. In the screening of resistance to crown gall by inoculation of A. vitis ‘Cheonan 493’, most European cultivars were shown to be susceptible, but two cultivars, ‘Regina’ and ‘Delight’, were found to be resistant. In American cultivars, ‘Wase Campbell’ was shown to be moderately susceptible. However, many cultivars such as ‘Campbell Early’, ‘Concord’, ‘Concord Seedless’, ‘Delaware’, and ‘Sheridan’ were all resistant. All Vitis hybrids were susceptible except ‘Alden’ and ‘Hongdan’. Based on measuring weight of galls formed by the pathogen infection, most European and Vitis hybrid cultivars were found to be susceptible, but most American cultivars except a few susceptible ones were classified as resistant.
